Classes and Hours of Operation

A child’s placement in a class is determined by his or her age as of September 1. Every room builds on one another but each child’s trajectory and starting place can be different. For information about Tuition and Fees, click here.

Office Hours

During the School Year, our office is open from 8:00am to 2:00pm. At other times, hours vary. Please contact us at office@dogwoodpreschool.org and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Additional Classroom Experiences

Children at Dogwood Preschool are offered 3 additional classes during the week. Children in all rooms are offered music and catechesis. Children in Purple, Red, and 5-Day rooms also participate in movement class weekly. These classes are interactive, play based, and are led by experts in each field.

 In music class, children have the opportunity to move their bodies, work with age-appropriate instruments and songs. During movement, children have fun outside and play while working on gross and fine motor skills. During Catechesis, children are offered the foundational principles of Christianity through a Montessori-inspired curriculum called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Dogwood is a non-denominational Christian preschool. We welcome and embrace children from any religious or non-religious background.

Classes

Orange Room - starting at 16 months

The Orange Room program provides an opportunity for the youngest children to begin socializing with others their age and to enjoy play, stories, music, and art in a nurturing environment separate from their parents. Language development, appropriate play, and a positive school experience are goals of the Orange Room. The Orange Room will meet from 9 am - 11:45 am on Thursdays and Fridays during the 2024 - 2025 school year.

Purple Room - starting at 27 months

The Purple Room provides the building blocks for the development of social, motor, verbal and listening skills. The main goals for both classes are successful separation from parents, further development of social interactions, moving from parallel play to group play, language acquisition, and using verbal skills rather than physical means in dealing with situations. The Purple Room will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 am - 11:45 am during the 2024 - 2025 school year.

Red Room and Violet Room - starting at 3 years old

The Red Room and Violet Room are for children three to three and one-half years old. Learning to listen, to express ideas, to “choose work” from a variety of options and to self-direct a portion of one’s learning are the goals of these classrooms. The goals and the activities that are offered are very similar to those of the older 5-Day program, although they are experienced within one classroom. These rooms meet Monday - Thursday from 9 am - 12 pm.

5-Day Program - starting at 3.5 years old (Green, Blue, and Yellow Rooms)

In the 5-Day Program, part of the morning is spent in separate group circles divided by age and part in open, free choice activity time. The students in each classroom of our 5-Day program will explore play through various activities, including dramatic play and practical life, fine and gross motor activities, creative expression, and sensory experiences. Our classrooms include art materials, puzzles and manipulatives all which encourage students to explore creative and cognitive interests, including shapes, numbers, letters, writing, and science.

Because the children in the 5-Day program are free to “choose work” in several classrooms, suitable materials are made available for every age child within each room. Activities are designed to be multi-level. Through experimentation, children choose materials that are meaningful to them. The 5-day program meets every weekday from 9 am - 12 pm.

Choices (Extended Hours)

Dogwood Preschool offers before and after school extended hours for the children enrolled in the Purple Room, Red Room, Violet Room and 5-Day Program. There is an additional charge for these programs. These opportunities can include Extended Day (12-1 pm, 5-day children only), Enrichment (12-1 pm, 5-day and Red Room children only), Lunch Bunch (12 pm - 1 pm), and Early Morning Drop off (8:30 am - 9 am). Early Morning Drop Off is also available for Orange Room. Details will be announced before each semester.
