Our Story
Dogwood Preschool was founded in 2020 to provide high-quality early childhood education to children of residents of greater Richmond, Virginia. Each classroom offers age-appropriate educational choices designed to draw in each individual child. Choices include cognitive, fine motor, gross motor, practical life, art, music, reading, and more. Our program is based on the best features of well-regarded early childhood education philosophies including Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Piaget. Our educational program is defined by:
Play-based, age-appropriate choices in each classroom, tailored to the interest and learning abilities of each child, emphasizing process over product
Intentional language to build empathy and self-confidence in each child
An engaged community of parents and teachers modeling kindness and good citizenship
Efficient communication, clear policies, effective use of technology to improve the parent experience
Dogwood Preschool is a non-denominational Christian preschool and children are offered the foundational principles of Christianity through a Montessori-inspired curriculum called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. We celebrate and embrace children from any religious or non-religious background.

Dogwood Preschool is recognized by the Virginia Department of Education as a licensed Child Day Center. The Dogwood School, Inc. doing business as Dogwood Preschool is a Virginia non-stock corporation recognized as a tax-exempt non-profit under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. It is governed by a Board of Directors.
